These chemicals have an directly effect on the living organisms in water resource. Therefore , the objective of this study was to investigated the effect of acenaphthene, the one of a group of chemicals called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons or PAHs that found high level in important rivers, on the enzyme glutathione-s-transferase activity which was the biotransformation enzyme. Fortyfive stripped catfish , were used in this study. Two groups of 15 fish each were dietary exposed to two concentrations of the acenaphthene diet, 10 and 150 mg/kg body weight and the other 15 fish fed non acenaphthene mixed diet was a control group. After 4 weeks of the experiment, collected liver samples from all fish in each group for Glutathione-S-Transferase activity investigation. There was no fish mortality for any groups during the experiment. By comparing with the control group, glutathione-s-transferase activity were significantly increased in both concentrations, 10 and 150 mg/kg weight (P 0.05). These results indicated that acenaphthene caused high glutathione-s-transferase activity in stripped catfish livers when compared with control group but it was not depended on the concentration of acenaphthene.
