In the context of Quantum Field Theory, the Yukawa potential, which describes strong interactions between nucleons, has its origin in the process of meson-exchanges between nucleons. In this report, after reviewing the basic methods of relativistic quantum field theory based on canonical quantization, we proceed to compute the nucleon-nucleon scattering amplitudes corresponding to the process of one-meson exchange. The scattering amplitudes so obtained are then converted into the potential between two nucleons, via an analogy with the result obtained in the scattering theory of non-relativistic quantum mechanics. The resulting potential takes the form of the Yukawa potential, and is valid only to the lowest order in quantum calculations.
