Development of LDPE Plastic Film for Covering Hotbeds
The aim of the research is to develop LDPE plastic film suitable for covering hotbeds. The two significant properties to be improved are 1) the weathering durability to be used over extended periods of time and 2) the photo-transforming property that converts harmful UV-light. The corresponding additives combined into plastic film are called UV-stabilizer and novel photo-transformer, respectively in order to improve such properties. Additionally, the composition of UV-stabilizer and novel photo-transformer for plastic film must be compatible to enhance those properties. The preliminary investigation of the effect of the various UV-stabilizers on the weathering durability property of the LDPE film has been focused in this work. The UV-stabilizers added into the film are comprised of some commercially available Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers (HALS) and synthesized HALS derivatives.
